The Delmar Divide

A slew of good articles detailing St. Louis's history of segregation, a word a lot of white people are afraid to use because it conjures up images of the Jim Crow south where "real" racism happens, but as a long-time resident of St. Louis, the Delmar divide is a very real thing. Even in the diverse neighborhood where I grew up, it was enforced through the education system where white kids went to the neighborhood catholic schools (with smaller classrooms and better resources), and non-white kids went to public schools. (Mikki Kendall talks about this in other cities on her Twitter feed.)
