Yesterday And Today: Songs We Caught Up To, Songs We Moved Beyond (Monitor Mix)
Carrie Brownstein blogs about songs that marked certain moments in your life. Being a Replacements fan, I especially liked what she said about "16 Blue:" "This (along with a lot of other Mats tunes) summed up most everything for me during my high-school years. Yet, inevitably, it happened again; I was past it. "Sixteen Blue" became someone else's story, some other kid's security blanket for his or her teenage years." I was 25 when I first heard that song, and it's never been more than a sweet, sad song. Like she said, someone else's story.

Marisa Meltzer, author of the book Girl Power: The Nineties Revolution in Music, has a series of posts up at Jezebel chronicling contemporary music made by women: Spice Boys and Barbie Men (men singing songs penned by women), Great Performances (some of out favorite live "girl rock" moments), and Teen Angels (for those of us who aren't afraid to admit we bought more than one Debbie Gibson album -- and that perfume.)
