I came across Tanya Tagaq in a short article about throat singing in The Guardian the other day. Weirdly enough, I had been looking for examples of women throat singers. Unlike throat singing (also known as overtone singing) in other parts of the world, namely Mongolia and Tibet, Inuit throat singing is performed by women. Via Wikipedia:
."..the Inuit performers are usually women who sing only duets in a kind of entertaining contest to see who can outlast the other. However, at least one notable performer, Tanya Tagaq, performs throat singing as a solo artist and as a collaborator with non-throat singing musicians such as Björk."
