Links & Bits (Now With More Bieber Fail)

Justin Bieber Pets Esperanza Spalding's Hair (Womanist Musings)
In an interview with Spalding, Beiber reached out and touched her hair without asking. I suppose he thought it was fine, because he told her that he liked her hair, but it was an absolute violation. You don't just reach out and pet someone. Spalding is entitled to her bodily integrity. When I look at the above image, I cannot help but think of the race and gender dynamics at play.
Mavis Staples Wins First Ever Grammy for Best Americana Album (Spinner)
Overcome with emotion, Staples, 71, clutched her award during the Pre-Telecast Ceremony and proclaimed the honour had been "a long time coming."
Grammy Award Winning Lady Drummers (Tom Tom Magazine)
First off, Arcade Firewon Album of The Year for The Suburbs which is massive! I remember hearing about this band from Montreal a few years ago from every single person I knew. I slept on the recommendation for a long time and now look where they are. Win Butler, the lead singer of the band (as if you didn’t already know), is also husband to the mutli-talented, multi-instrumentalist RĂ©gine Chassagne who occasionally drums for the band during performances and on tracks. She also plays the accordion, drums, xylophone, hurdy-gurdy, keyboards and organ.
