Don Cornelius, host of the long-running show Soul Train, died at age 75 of a gunshot wound earlier this week. It was an apparent suicide.
Rolling Stone has a nice tribute posted with words from several musicians as well as music insiders. Says Questlove of the Roots:
"I just wanna use my position to really let people know that next to Berry Gordy, Don Cornelius was hands down the MOST crucial non-political figure to emerge from the civil rights era post '68," he wrote."
