Seven Years Ago

This week marks the seventh anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. I generally don't mark the milestones of national tragedy, especially when it feels more like appropriation rather than a solemn reminder of something horrible that happened, but watching the disaster, the multiple failings of those in charge to see that their citizens were taken care of, made me someone who cares about more than my own little part of the world.

Melissa Harris-Perry  linked to a collection of journal articles on her site this week that help to illustrate the magnitude of Katrina, and its lingering effects on the people hit by it. Yes, these are a bit scholarly, but it's worth a look through.
