More on Call-Out Culture
Ozy Frantz has a multipart feature on call-out culture on hir blog this week that's a great starting point for those in the social justice blog world, or those wanting to become more active while avoiding this thing called "call-out culture." Zie raises a few good points, particularly how marginalized groups can still be bullies even while their anger stems from a legitimate place. I think this is important to note, mostly because those of us privileged on quite a few axes -- myself included -- want to be seen as good allies, and call-out culture overwhelmingly centers the feelings of those same privileged people on the ass-end of the call-out. It's often a fine line to balance, and a lot of people would rather out of the SJ world altogether than risk being part of a pile-up, even when there's a greater good to be had.
