Venues cancel Michelle Shocked after homophobic rant

After declaring at San Francisco show this weekend that she "lived in fear that the world would be destroyed if gays are allowed to marry," a number of venues have canceled Michelle Shocked's upcoming shows:
A Change.org petition asking for equality-minded venues to cancel her shows now has over 1,500 signatures. McCabe's Guitar Shop in Santa Monica, Calif., Moe's Alley in Santa Cruz, Calif., Meander's Kitchen in Seattle, Cozmic in Eugene, Ore., Palms Playhouse in Winters, Calif., and SPACE in Evanston, Ill., all canceled upcoming Shocked shows, according to the petition. Shocked is one of those singer-songwriters whose respect and acclaim is a given. I've never been much of a fan of hers, but the outrage -- and disappointment -- is completely warranted. Apparently, she's a born-again christian. (I did not know this. Her career froze somewhere in the mid-nineties for me.)
