Corrections

I took both bell hooks's and Judith Butler's essays on Paris is Burning off my reading list. Staring with Donna's comment, this is a good discussion on the inherent transphobia (among other fails) in the hooks essay. I had initially included it as a counterpoint to Butler's, which I also think is flawed, but one flaw can't cancel another. Sorry I didn't do a better job of vetting those.
