Here's a thing that happened

Dear feminist and SJ blog universe, I don't know whom to be angry with anymore. Whoever is in charge, can you please make a handy spreadsheet listing everyone's flaws for easy reference?

Of course sarcasm is a cheap defense mechanism for the sort of fear that your Twitter page might be mined for a years-old offense, or that the link you just posted wasn't properly vetted and may contain any number is -isms among its back pages, but when did we get so... thorough? (And why am I nabbing Carrie Bradshaw's style today?)

Long story made possibly longer (and it's not even my story, so bear with me): a popular commenter was banned from a site that has been long-known for its heavy-handed moderation. Nothing unusual there, except they* were banned for something they said on another site. That's a little unnerving.

The feminist blog world is an ecosystem: it's made up of a number of interconnected and overlapping parts. Links and memes make the rounds, bloggers guest blog for their friends -- it's inevitable that what's said on one eventually makes it others, but I always thought there was at least a mild sense of "what stays in Vegas" when it comes to disparate sites. (This is why I rotate a couple different user names.) Am I alone in thinking this is just a little creepy?

* I used a neutral pronoun so not to identify any of the parties involved, in case it looks like I'm willfully misgendering anyone. If you read some of the sites I link to periodically on this blog, it's pretty easy to figure it out.
