I don't care that you are a special snowflake

No really, I don't. I care that you write clearly and thoughtfully and have a viewpoint that goes beyond regurgitating talking points.

I generally avoid Tumblr, but lately I've seen quite a few posts deconstructing (rather clumsily) sexual and gender identity specifically for the purpose of identifying and excoriating "special snowflakes." For this purpose, I'm limiting this to gender identity and sexuality because I strongly believe those things to be off-limits for discussion. You do not get to define anyone else. Period.

Part of this is because I see "special snowflake" identities being limited to Tumblr or other blogs on the outer edges of the SJ blog world, and as long as long as someone isn't clearly appropriating a marginalized identity, I don't care. I care what kind of writer you are. (Just make sure your pronoun of choice is displayed someone on your blog, please.) Sex and gender are kind of blurry sometimes; no one should be forced to defend theirs.
