The documentary Paris Is Burning , which chronicles the New York drag "ballroom" scene of the 80s, is airing on Showtime and Showtime-On-Demand this month. (Hint: If you're a fan of Drag Race, this is where most of the vocabulary comes from.)
There are come very valid criticisms of the doc, primarily that it was made by a cis white woman not directly involved in the scene herself and can be interpreted as exploitative, but it's classic in the sense that there is nothing else like it, and, sadly, most of the people in it are dead now.
