The trick is to keep moving

I don't hate my WIP, but after giving it a thorough -- and I mean thorough -- read through, calling it bare bones would be an understatement. I don't really "plot," so the first draft is where I basically work out relationships between characters. This is good, actually, because it's a hard thing to visualize until these people get to interact with each other. And it's bad because my first drafts are clogged with superfluous dialogue and lots of, for lack of a better word, blocking. (Hi, former theater student talking." Character moves this way, does this, talking-talking-talking, interacts with this innate object here... I do this to keep my hands moving. The pretty sentences can come later.
