Perfum Genius in Stereogum

Stereogum posted a good interview with Mike Hadreas, aka Perfume Genius earlier this month where he talks about, among other things, masculinity and the expectations of being an out gay artist in a music industry that celebrates LGBT performers while still adhering to restrictive standards:
[...] Whenever anything “gay” comes along, everybody wants that thing to somehow be everything to everybody. And usually it is too gay, or not gay enough. There’s never the right amount. I think that happens a little bit in the media. Even in YouTube comments, I’ve had gay men write, “Why is he still going on and on about all this stuff?” or “I don’t wear heels and lipstick; why is he trying to make it like all gay men do that?”
