May 4th on HBO
Full disclosure: I was never much of a Nirvana fan back in the day. By the time they and their influence traveled downwind enough for me to hear them, I'd already remade myself as that kid "too cool for popular music." I regret that. One thing I always find surprising in hindsight is that many people close to Kurt Cobain agree that he actively courted fame. I thought he was just the unfortunate recipient of the kind of sweeping cultural change that happens once in a lifetime. In the 90s, that was definitely the narrative, and he played into it exceedingly well. This looks to be an interesting documentary without all the sugarcoating and hagiography.
