I've always had an odd relationship to cosmetics. I cut my teeth on glam rock, so makeup has never been the exclusive domain of women, and can be something subversive instead of pretty. Given my age, however, and my decidedly casual (read: non rock star) lifestyle, I'm a lip balm and sunscreen kind of gal. Black lip gloss is kind of my midpoint between heartland practicality and punk. If you have pigmented lips, it won't "read" black but deep plum without any obvious red undertones.
