Vic Chesnutt wrote more honestly and succinctly about depression than any other songwriter I can think of at the moment. Unfortunately, he took his own life three years ago this December. "Flirted With You All My Life" reminds me a lot of one of my favorite poems by Jane Kenyon,
"Having it Out Wit Melancholy," another achingly raw account of pain and depression.
