Within most of the areas of the internet I haunt, this goes without saying. If you're opinion is misogynistic, cissexist, racist, ableist, homophobic, etc. -- I don't. And I think most people agree with me that no one is under any obligation to be "nice." These days, It's usually when I venture into more mainstream places that am I confronted with it.
I also hate "agreeing to disagree."
This is why I can no longer watch CNN or read the comments on my local paper's blog. The fight to be bipartisan or nonpartisan leaves too much room for bigotry disguised as "opinion." (The same way that playing "devil's advocate" does.)
I'm not saying the SJ blog world is entirely free of this (though, by nature, it should be, or it should be striving its hardest to be), but on most political or news sites that profess to be nonpartisan, the "every viewpoint is a worthy one" practice promotes a lot of viewpoints that are damaging
