Links & Bits for 3/12/10

From Feministing: Consuming pop culture while trans: Disney's The Little Mermaid
Jos retells Disney's The Little Mermaid as a trans fairy tale.

Listening To My Life: Lost In The Shuffle from Paste Magazine
Maura Johnston talks about the transformation of music as something physical (vinyl, cassettes, and finally CDs) to something that lives on a computer hard drive.

Tales From Rehab: The Lost Boys (and Girls) from Inverse Candlelight
I wasn't going to blog about Corey Haim's death. To be honest, I was never much of an 80s movie fan, even in the 80s. Miss Banshee's account of her own time in rehab, and the patients -- the lost boys and girls -- she met while there, is a more lucid account of a young addict's life than any of the Monday morning quarterbacking courtesy of the gossip blogs.

Womanist Musing's Tune in Tuesday featured Boy George this week. Of his later hit, "The Crying Game," Renee says: "When this song came out, I was just learning about different sexualities and the way in which gender is constructed."
