First off, let me say I am not an authority on English anarcho-punk. I own Crass's Penis Envy, and maybe drag it out once or twice a year when I'm feeling exceptionally irascible, but I usually prefer my punk a bit poppy. However, I was digging around for little-known, female-fronted bands of the 70s and 80s, and became fascinated with the Poison Girls' story. Middle-aged mother of two, Vi Subversa, sang in a Marianne Faithfull-esque croak some of the most overtly feminist lyrics of the punk era:
