Seventh Tree was a pretty big departure for Alison Goldfrapp -- a lot more ethereal and less "dancefloor" -- and quickly became a critical favorite. The mash of wispy, diaphanous, haunted sounds is undeniable gorgeous, plus it boasts one of the best songs about breast implants in "Clowns," but my favorite is probably the most commercial-sounding of any single Goldfrapp's ever released, "A&E."
The inspiration for the album, Alison and her musical partner, Will Gregory, claim "comes from paganism and old English children' books." (source )
