Early on, I tried to find music to link to that provided if not an explicitly feminist message, one that at least spoke to some sort of empowerment. To be honest, I hate explicitly political art.
In my quest to find "appropriate" music, the kind one would put on a mixtape for a teenage girl whose taste started with Britney and finished with Taylor, I was leaving out a lot of music I liked because it seemed "uncomfortable," at least in a feminist setting. This is one of my favorite songs from Chan Marshall, because it makes me a little uncomfortable.
