No skinny ties here: women in power pop

As a genre, power pop has always been sort of nebulous, and a little hard to define. Ringing guitars? Check. Hooks that burrow themselves into your brain for days, weeks even? Sure. But a lot of guitar-based pop shares those same qualities. One thing that seems to be a given is its skinny tie, boys only aesthetic. Here are some videos from my favorite women in power pop.

Mo-dettes - "White Mice"

Holly and the Italians - Rock Against Romance

The Bangles covering the Big Star classic, "September Gurls"

Velocity Girl - "I Can't Stop Smiling"
