Mezzanine is the quintessential late-90s album. It really has that "end of an era" feeling while being on the cusp of something different and new, but vaguely ominous.
I find it easier to listen to it now, with enough historical distance. If I have one criticism of Mezzanine, it's that it's too married to the time it was first released. That being said, it's a masterpiece of production and an audiophile's wet dream, something that couldn't have happened in the iPod era where every track is excessively loud and bright.
